Volunteer Work Week 

The Volunteer Work Week is a chance for conference attendees and other experienced worker cooperators to put together our expertise and lend a hand to startup cooperative projects. Volunteers will work closely with local cooperators and those interested in cooperation to provide technical assistance to developing and ongoing projects, as well as some hammer-and-nails sweat investment in startup projects.

We aim to have a good mix of projects, so we have two kinds of work available:

Brawn Work - Helping build, clean, and get dirty with projects from building to community gardening. Basic carpentry and building, hauling debris, gardening, etc.
Brain Work - Helping prospective worker co-op projects get started or move further along. Providing technical assistance and experienced advice in the areas of: business planning, finances, democratic governance and management, personnel/meetings, cooperative law, etc.

Participation is free for Work Week volunteers, and we will provide transportation around the Bay Area (there may be a minimal cost to you, but scholarships are available). You will be responsible for your housing and meals. If you are staying at the conference site, you should select housing for the nights of the Work Week. You can come to part or all of the work week.

In 2008 in New Orleans, 22 volunteers worked on six projects for five days, and we had a blast doing everything from facilitation training to helping with strategic planning, to digging weeds and clearing debris. We hope to re-create some of the magic this year.

If you want Work Week housing at the conference site, and you're registering for the conference, just add housing for whatever work week days you need it to your registration.
