Dues
DUES (downloadable PDF at bottom of this page)
All dues are assessed as sliding scale fees, with provisions for labor-trade, so that the cost of membership is not prohibitive. Dues for worker cooperatives, other democratic workplaces, and developers are based on a percentage of gross receipts. Startup workplace, Associate and Individual dues are sliding scale.
How to calculate your dues:
Find the range that includes your annual gross revenue. Match it to your annual dues in $$ range on the same line. Choose within this dues range what your workplace will pay, according to its ability to pay. We encourage you to pay as much as you can: we rely on your dues!
If your workplace is a dues-paying member of a local or regional worker cooperative federation, you may take a discount on your dues (see below for explanation of dues discount).
Work-Trade Option:
Current members may pay up to half of their dues in hours (valued at $25/hr) doing specific tasks in support of the Federation’s mission and its current and ongoing projects, as mutually agreed by the USFWC and member workplaces. Labor trade requests must be made in writing and must specify the tasks the member will perform. Labor trade tasks must be completed by the end of the dues year. Requests are approved by the Membership Committee, and are subject to annual review. Labor trade is not available to first-time members or to individuals.

Discount for Local/Regional Dues Paid
To encourage and support local and regional organizing, the Federation offers a discount to any workplace paying dues to a local/regional organization of worker cooperatives. To calculate your discount, determine which is smaller: (a) half your USFWC dues OR (b) the amount of local/regional dues you paid. Then subtract this amount from your dues above. Our dues minimum is $100, so no discounts will be granted if they reduce dues below $100.
ALTERNATE DUES CALCULATION METHOD: Gross Compensation
Determine the gross compensation to all workers by adding together the following for the previous fiscal year: wages and salaries, payroll taxes, workers compensation, all health benefits, pension or savings contributions, paid time off, patronage and dividends (both cash payments and qualified notices), and any other compensation that may be relevant to your workplace. Please note on your dues renewal form that you are paying by the Gross Compensation method. Calculate your dues as follows: Dues = (Gross Compensation/800) + $50.
Dues Non-payment
Members who have not paid dues will lose benefits after 90 days, and a notice will be sent to them saying benefits can be re-instated if dues are paid before 6 months. If there is still no communication, membership will be terminated a month after this notice is sent. If two-way communication is established and a payment plan is made, membership stays active. However, if a payment plan is suggested and dues are still not paid by 365 days from the date of invoicing, membership will be terminated. Payment plans (w/contract) can be made on a case-by-case basis at staff discretion, with labor trade suggested in lieu of amount that the member can’t afford.
