Watch: 20 Years of the Worker Co-op Movement

As we closed out the 2024 Worker Co-op Conference, we celebrated the last 20 years of the movement and looked toward the future of the worker co-op movement. DAWI Co-Executive Director Julian McKinley moderated this conversation between co-founder and worker-owner of Red Emma’s Kate Khatib, Stacey Sutton of University of Illinois Chicago, and Vanessa Bransburg, DAWI Co-Executive Director. During 2024, the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives celebrated it’s 20th anniversary while the Democracy At Work Institute marked 10 years since branching off from USFWC as its own nonprofit. Red Emma’s also celebrated 20 years since it’s founding. The panelists reflected on our recent history and pointed toward what it will take for our movement to see explosive growth in the coming years.
