ROLE SUMMARY
As our Tax Practice Manager, you will provide federal and state tax preparation, and tax consulting primarily to small businesses and non-profits across the US. You will collaborate with your colleagues in our Tax Department on complex issues, and work with the Tax Team to provide tax related support and internal consulting to our Bookkeeping Department staff.
You will manage our tax team, currently two positions with plans to grow, and coordinate assistance from our bookkeeping department as needed. You will be the champion of process improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery, contributing to critical decisions regarding the development of the Tax Department, its policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Tax Team staff.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Project & Systems Management
Project manage our book of tax work, ensuring key deadlines are met, client expectations are effectively managed, and quality standards are maintained
Monitor client satisfaction; take lead on resolving customer service issues
Coordinate with leadership from other departments to ensure excellent service continuity for our clients
Support colleagues preparing potential client proposals and contribute to pricing models and systems for evaluating client needs
Review and submit client billing for processing
Contribute to development and continuous improvement of Tax Department workflows, procedures, and policies
Support the Director of Operations with other projects and assistance as needed
Staff Supervision
Manage Tax Team workload and capacity; coordinate staffing and assignments across clients and projects
Provide leadership to the tax team, evaluate professional development needs and identify learning opportunities for tax department staff; mentor junior staff, offering guidance and technical expertise
Evaluate tax department staff, providing regular feedback as well as annual performance reviews
Participate in Hiring of new Tax Department Staff
Client Services
Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax and information returns of all complexity levels on behalf of businesses and tax-exempt entities
Assess client filing and compliance requirements
Review returns and other work product prepared by other Tax Department staff for accuracy and completion
Interface with federal, state and local taxing authorities as required
Meet with clients and provide tax consulting services of all complexity levels
Understand and research tax concepts of all complexity levels and their application to client situations
Keep up to date on tax developments, which may include attending conferences online and/or in person
Compliance
Manage licensures, registrations and compliance with requirements to maintain our status as a tax preparing entity, including annual PTIN and FIRE account renewals
Maintain departmental compliance with WISP and make recommendations to ensure our cybersecurity procedures are in line with requirements

Tech savvy and adept at working in a remote, paperless environment
Strong work ethic and professionalism
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a position primarily focused on business tax preparation
Experience reviewing income tax returns
Experience with accounting software, especially QuickBooks Online and/or Xero
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel
Current and valid Enrolled Agent or CPA license
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supervising staff
Project Management training and/or experience
Significant experience preparing 1120-C and/or 990 Series returns
Experience preparing returns in Intuit ProConnect Tax Online
Experience working in a fully remote position

Compensation:
$50-58/hr depending on experience and other qualifications
