Our Member Councils and Peer Networks are shaping the future of the worker co-op movement in the U.S. Here are the latest highlights from some of our Councils & Networks:
- At our last general Union Co-ops Council meeting, we came to a consensus to propose a standard for co-ops to adopt labor neutrality in their bylaws. We agreed this would be a good anchor for our collective Council work, especially as an outreach tool to engage both unions and co-ops.
Next steps could be creating an organizing list, hosting a webinar or smaller educational sessions, or connecting to solidarity work with non-cooperative workplaces that are organizing with unions. Join our next meeting on Wednesday July 30th here! - The Policy & Advocacy Council talked about the work the Sustainable Economies Law Center is doing to support the creation of worker cooperatives in prisons in California. Join July’s session on 7/10 for tools to invite representatives to visit your business and learn about the importance of worker ownership to go into the fall advocacy season strong.
- The Racial and Economic Justice Council welcomes cooperators from around the country to share what challenges they are facing and how USFWC members can support each other. Plus, if there’s an issue you want the USFWC to address, or a conversation you want the cooperative movement to have, now’s your chance to bring your proposal to this Council. Register for our next meeting on August 6th here! These meetings have interpretation between English and Spanish.
- The Immigrant Co-ops Council (MIC in Spanish) is coming together in support of our fellow USFWC member cooperatives that have been directly impacted by the recent increase in ICE activities around the country. At our next meeting on July 17th (in Spanish), we’ll discuss the importance of organized public support when someone is detained, and how community pressure can prevent deportations. Sign up to join us and reach out to sasha@usworker.coop for more information. Meetings are conducted in Spanish, and open to all USFWC members.
