In the coming months, we will continue our roundtables to gather feedback on the USFWC’s policy position on a topics relevant to the co-op values.

We are kicking off a process to understand and articulate how the Cooperative Values are demonstrated in our work, particularly in the policy and advocacy arena. We’ll discuss engagement opportunities in this process, which will lead toward a living “position paper” document outlining our policy priorities to be presented in the fall.

We will gather the feedback of USFWC Board, members, staff, and stakeholders to inform priority issue areas that our organization will pursue as policy and advocacy priorities. This short paper outlining high-level priorities and processes for decision-making will allow for the USFWC to move toward proactive work, allowing staff, board, and members to act nimbly and while also being informed by the priorities and direction of our collective wisdom and experience.

Process

  • Initial information gathering – Q1 2022
  • Targeted member outreach and roundtables based on issue areas and industries – Q2 – Q3
  • Progress report – Member meeting, May 2022
  • Drafting and editing of paper – Q3 2022
  • Presentation to membership – Fall member meeting, 2022

Topics

The position paper is intended to be a “living document” on which the USFWC membership will have ongoing input opportunities. The first version of this paper will include an articulation of policy priorities based on our past policy and advocacy work, timely issues based on political opportunity and input from the Policy and Advocacy Council. The initial topics will include:

  • Homecare
  • Childcare
  • Domestic Work
  • Labor
  • Climate Justice
  • Racial Justice
  • Finance
