Seeking Specialist in Cosmic Consciousness & Cooperative Communication
Cosmos Cooperative (Longmont, Colorado) | Remote, with possible in-person events | 20 hrs/week | August 3–September 30, 2026, with possible extension | $30–35/hr, DOE, on independent contractor basis initially
Hello, friend of the Cosmos! We know you’re out there.
We know you not only have your antenna up, you’re near…
A degree or two of separation, at most?
Or: the other end of the Milky Way. No matter!
You can travel light years in the blink of a metaphor.
You are a mystical media magician who wears multiplex hats.
You can write. You can edit. You have a good eye, a good ear. Enough professional experience to be dangerous—though not necessarily of the corporate kind. You cross contexts. You max the mandala. You get goodness done regardless.
You are good with people, and good with technology. (Not scared of a little complexity).
And you’re looking for a stellar opportunity to be part of something much, much bigger…
What We’re Building
Cosmos Cooperative is many things, which can be described in many ways: a multidimensional art garden, a community-driven mother-ship, an infinite game…
Essentially, we are a group of poets, writers, artists, thinkers, scholars, activists, visionaries, spiritual explorers, and other types of unconventional or “creative” folk, who have banded together under the world-welcoming banner of Cosmos to incubate, develop, produce, and promote our lovingly crafted works and offerings.
We envision (and are in the process of) creating a common social and technological infrastructure that any creative member of Cosmos can use to engage with the community, build a presence, and sell their work—or simply reach others, if that is their goal. However, at the moment, our main “products” are our online community space (Infinite Conversations) and our books (published via Untimely Books). We also publish a literary arts journal called Metapsychosis. It would be a very good idea for you to familiarize yourself with all four of our main websites before applying for this role:
(Extra points if you’re conversant with the Open Social Web, e.g., Mastodon and the wider Fediverse; if so, see Cosmos.social and our account on Social.coop—both of which could use some love.)
Within our community space, we host regular online events such as reading and writing groups led by authors, editors, and other members; community meet-ups; creative showcases; and topical (often philosophical, though rarely merely theoretical) conversations. We also organize in-person events in Colorado, Quebec, and on location. Our authors have participated as presenters at festivals and conferences, and some offer online or in-person courses and workshops.
In the realm of Publishing, we are essentially an indie press looking to expand the opportunities for members to publish and promote their work through us. The value we provide is in editorial and design expertise, community collaboration, production and distribution admin, and ideally—marketing, publicity, and sales: obviously where you come in.
You’ll be building on newsletter lists and social media accounts that have been active at various times, though honestly, could all use a refreshed strategy. We’re also sitting on top of years worth of creative and conversational content, with more being submitted and generated weekly. You’ll work with our video editor to produce shareable clips, and with our graphic designer on digital and print assets. (Any similar or complementary media production skills you could add to the mix would be most welcome.)
We’re also very interested in in-person events—taking our show on the road, as it were. Earlier this year, we hosted a table at the AWP (Association of Writers and Writing Programs) convention in Baltimore as well as ICON (the Integral Conference of North America) in Denver. Most recently, we attended the Colorado Creative Industries summit in Trinidad, Colorado. Next up: Cosmos’ Council retreat and investor presentation in Vancouver!
Cosmos has members across the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe, and we hope to grow globally over time. We have been active for over 10 years, but funded for only the past year. We are small, but dreaming big. Our first stop is the “creative industry.” Our ultimate goal is to build a consciousness-based social movement for cooperative stewardship of our cultural commons. Between vision and reality, we walk the line and take our seat. Viva la revolución!
How You Can Help
We are playing a long game—yet time is of the essence.
Our current funding is just enough for our small but mighty team to produce the following deliverables, with you shaping and holding direction and providing key pieces:
- An investor packet, including pitch deck—you’ll work with CEO Caroline Savery and CFO Colin Karewa Forbes on the craft and presentation of our story.
- The Cosmos.coop website re-imagined to engage and be more informative and useful to potential and existing members—especially the home and join pages.
- A thoughtful, well-fitted, and actionable marketing, sales, and publicity strategy for the co-op as a whole, including membership and other revenue streams that we are developing (e.g., client services) that we can take into the end of this year and the next.
- Individual plans for the six books moving through our pipeline this year and next—I AM THE SINGULARITY (poetry), This Woman (poetry), Messioph (science fiction, paperback reissue), The Male Lesbian Manifesto (gender/queer theory), X: Revenge of the Autogenes (poetry), and See You In Our Dreams (fiction, reissue)—four new, two returning to print—with more submissions in development.
- Ongoing attention to weekly publications in the journal and other member productions, working with the members and our editorial and production teams to coordinate launch campaigns.
With all of the above, at twenty hours a week, we don’t expect you to do it all. But we do need you to hold all of the components and relationships. You’ll work closely with Marco, Caroline, and other Cosmos workers, and with time you’ll be expected to work more autonomously and directly with members. It is also likely that the role itself will eventually split into ‘Marketing,’ ‘Publicity,’ and ‘Sales’ as distinct positions—but for now we’ll need you to hold all three perspectives (along with the balance between promoting Cosmos as a whole and helping sell individual members’ projects) and distribute your time adaptively.
This role will live inside the Publishing Circle, but you’ll often find yourself in conversation with the Business, Community, Technology, (and, when it has spun up, Education) Circles.
Part of the job is tracking these numbers yourself:
- Membership sales
- Book sales
- Audience growth & engagement (websites, forum, and social channels)
We’ll also use them, in part, to measure how the role is going.
About You
You understand how to plant an idea and let it grow on its own—not forced but nurtured.
Sine qua non—for this job—you love books, you love music, you care about the lyrics. You’re digital and analog, both/and, neither, fluid. You understand: We are the message. You meet people where they’re at. You comprehend: We are Many and One.
You LOVE the idea of cooperation and collective stewardship of shared resources (i.e., “the Commons”)—AND you want to champion individual artists and their works.
You are happy to use the tools of capitalism (marketing, etc.) to go beyond capitalism—beyond post-capitalism, beyond any ism.
AND: you know something about actual cooperatives—you are comfortable talking about money and membership, capable of getting things done, willing to engage in dialogue as part of how decisions get made. You’re up for learning Sociocracy and other social technologies that Cosmos is incorporating, exploring, or co-evolving with.
You are an Artist of some kind; you WANT to be part of a cooperative—and you can see yourself growing with us—as we get to know each other…
