The Role: Community Connector

We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes Dallas community work and is ready to get paid for it. We need someone who already knows the landscape, who shows up at town halls, who builds real relationships.

We’re offering $250/month with certain deliverables being met to start. This reflects where we are right now—our current staff is getting paid $400, and we’re transparent about that as we build. We’re flexible about hours and want to find a rhythm that works for both of us.

Our Story

DFW faces new challenges every day. As usual, Black and Brown communities, working class families, queer and trans folks, and indigenous peoples step up to address what systems fail to solve. TAABIR (manifestation of a dream in Urdu) is our effort to create what our community needs now.

We’re building a space that truly belongs to our community—on Caddo and Wichita land in West Irving (south of 183, west of 35)—where we’ll create a safe space for those who need it most.

What We’re Building (with your help)

TAABIR is a building housed in West Irving. But it’s also a living ecosystem including:

Vocational school teaching green construction + cooperative business skills
Resource center for job training + mutual aid
Co-working space for community organizations
Community space for meditation + gatherings
Theater available at discounts for arts organizations
Worker-owned bakery to fund our programs
Thanks to a non-extractable loan and strong steering committee, we have a budget and plan. This is solidarity economy in action—worker-directed, community-owned, and rooted in the belief that we’re stronger together. We’re learning from organizations like Brooklyn Woods, Prospera, and the Arizmendi co-op network, with support and guidance from LIFT Economy, USFWC, and the Sustainable Economies Law Center.

Who you are

Dallas roots through and through: 5-7 years living and working in Dallas, known in the community
Grassroots organizing: maybe you’ve worked in nonprofit and grew tired of the entire complex, and want a space that prioritizes organizing from the ground up
Field organizing: you’ve built relationships and mobilized communities, know how to use Mobilize and knock on doors, both in person and online
Existing network: relationships with Dallas community orgs and grassroots groups
Community event regular: community forums, church/mosque meetings, and arts programming
Understanding of solidarity economy principles, experience with community asset mapping, ability to build trust across diverse communities, strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to our values of participatory governance and inclusive community development.

How We Work Together

Partnership building: reaching out to organizations that need space or have funding but need community connections
Community listening: spending time in Dallas neighborhoods, listening to what communities need
Relationship cultivation: building trust and facilitating connections between organizations
Grassroots organizing: representing TAABIR at community meetings and local events
Specific deliverables from these needs will be established together

Our Values

We believe in participatory governance (staff has power over board), financial transparency (we do budget meetings as a team) power with not power over, radical inclusivity, reverse equity, accountable solidarity (moving at the pace of our bodies and spirits), and solidarity economy practices.
